The County of Cornwall flag, also known as the Cross of St Piran flag, is probably the oldest county flag existing, although many Cornishmen insist that it is a national flag. The plain white cross on a black field, has been used since at least the early nineteenth century maybe longer. The colours derive from Saint Piran’s discovery of tin, a white metal, in the black ashes of his fire. Saint Piran is the patron saint of tin miners, a mainstay of the Cornish economy for centuries.
This flag is screen printed polyester fabric with a mirror image showing on the reverse side, hemmed around the edges with eyelets on the left hand side.
